How I Tripled My Sales By Speaking The Correct Language

by Tristen OBrien on November 15, 2011

We are all WORLD WIDE Entrepreneurs!  We can sell to any country and any person who wants our item, but how do you market to your ideal customer.  Since I have been selling on eBay, I have noticed a trend with some of the items that I sell.  I have noticed a seasonal trend, size trend, and more importantly a location trend.

Over the past few months I have been trying an experiment on eBay, and the results blew my mind.  Blew my mind might be stretching it to far, but I am definitely impressed with the results.  Here was my problem – Since the middle of summer, I started to see a slow down on the sales of my polo shirts.  I knew that summer was ending, but I refused to let me sales do the same.  As it grew colder and colder here in Mid America, I started to see a trend.  99% of my Tommy Hilfiger shirts were sold to one place – Brazil.

I would sell one Tommy Hilfiger shirt here and there, until I realized that I needed to market directly to them!  There are thousands of these Tommy Hilfiger shirts on eBay at anytime, and mine looked exactly like the rest.  So here is my secret! Since I knew that 99% of my Tommy Hilfiger shirts are sold to Brazil, I added a few things to my listings.  The language of Brazil is Portuguese, so I left them a message in my description and secondary title in Portuguese!

My listing had all of the normal size and measurements descriptions in English, but I added one sentience towards the top of the discription “Esta camisa de golfe é muito bom, e eu navio ao Brasil rápido e muitas vezes! Lance com confiança. Muito obrigado!”.  That translates into “This golf shirt is very nice, and I ship to Brazil fast and often!  Bid with confidence.  Thanks!”.  Of course I have no idea how to speak or write in Portuguese so I use the Google Translator Widget found HERE

Since I have started doing this my Tommy Hilfiger sales have almost tripled!  Remember to Think Different and amazing things will happen!

Extreme Couponing – The Ebay Way

by Tristen OBrien on November 14, 2011

It’s sad but true, the Extreme Couponing show is one of my guilty pleasures.  It makes me smile when they can get $1,000 worth of items for free – it makes me angry when they do not share what they have – but most of all it inspired me to start selling differently on eBay.  Let’s be real here, spending 55 hours clipping coupons is a bit much (unless that is your full time job).  However, there is a great lesson to be learned here.  The lesson is – YOU CAN GET THINGS FOR FREE!  Why is that important to us Ebayers?  Well, its because we can sell those items!

One day after watching a marathon of this show, I was inspired to see what I could get for free and sell on eBay.  I don’t have a lot of extra time, so clipping 30 coupon inserts would not be worth it for me.  I do however rely on a few website to show me the deals.  They are: TheKrazyCouponLady.com, HeyItsFree.net, and BargainBlessings.com.

Okay so here is how I make money:

  1. I go to one of those three sites and look for items that are FREE (or close to free) after a coupon.  We will use TheKrazyCouponLady.com website for this example.
  2. I look to see if there is any money potential on eBay.  In this case we will use the Free Icy Hot at Walmart deal.
  3. Now I do not want to spend all day looking for 20 of the same coupons, so I turn to… You guessed it – eBay!  I look for a seller who is selling 20 or more of this same coupon. (HERE is a link to an active coupon listing).
I was able to get 20 of these coupons for $1.99 with free shipping.  After you get the coupons, you now need to go get the product from Walmart.  Walmart does have a coupon policy where you can only use 4 like coupons in one transaction, so you will need to do multiple transactions.  Here is a completed listing of the IcyHot that you will be selling:

This auction sold for $2.25 for two of the items, that means you can sell all twenty of your items for $22.50.  Take out your initial $1.99 investment and you made $20.51 (before fees).  This may not seem like a lot, but this is just one item!  This really does not take a lot of time once you get in the habit of looking at these websites.  I try to spend less than 20 minutes a week on this, and I tend to get around 8 deals.  What’s stopping you from getting 200 coupons of the icy hot!  Now you just made $200!  Try to think outside of the box, and you will find opportunity everywhere!

The Daily Insider

by Tristen OBrien on November 11, 2011

The most common question I get emailed is, “What did you buy today”?  This is a very good question, and I am usually more than happy to share my findings, but I thought I would start something new today.  I am going to start a post that will be updated Monday through Friday and will give you a quick peek into my brain. That way, when you go shopping for eBay inventory, you will always have at least one item that you know will bring me a really good profit.  The rest of the day will be just gravy.

The updated post will actually be located in a tab on top of the page called “Daily Insider”.  This way I can continue with the tips and tricks, but still keep you posted on awesome eBay inventory deals!  Also, I was hoping that this would be like an open forum.  There will be a comment section open on that page for you to put any great findings you may have found!  This way we can grow as a community helping each other out!

On a side note: I have been in email communication with a lot of you, and I wanted to update you on my email address.  Due to server errors I had to change my email – my new address is TristenOBrien at TheEbayEntrepreneur dot com.  You can still contact me on the “About Me” page, but I didn’t want anyone to think I was ignoring them if you might have replied to my old email address.  Thanks!!
