As many of you may already know, I have two children. Lucy (5 months old) and Jack (3 1/2 years old). They are amazing in so many ways, and I am blessed by having them in my life. With that said, one thing that I learned quickly is that kids are so expensive! Clothing, food, programs, and toys are just a few of the things that can suck money right out of your bank account, but it’s all worth it. Just yesterday, Amy was telling me that my reality on what things cost is way off. Maybe it’s because I am at a thrift shop several times a week, or maybe it’s because Amy does most of the shopping, but either way, she’s right. We were talking about getting Jack some new toys that were more age appropriate (he still has a lot of baby toys sitting around), so she suggested that I look at a Fisher Price brand called Imaginext.
Okay, maybe I’m crazy, but one of their dinosaurs costs over $100. Is that to much for a toy? I think so… Anyway, I started looking at these toys on ebay to find a better deal. The product I was looking for is called “Spike the Ultra Dinosaur”. It walks, talks, uses a fun remote control, and it comes with a wall charger to power the toy. As I’m searching for deals on this product I start to see a trend. There is one seller who keeps popping up over and over again, but he is not selling the dinosaur, he is selling the charger that goes with the dinosaur. I quickly noticed that this must be a good money maker for him, and since I sell replacement parts for other products, I knew that the manufacture probably sold this item on their website. Sure enough, fisher price (the creator of Imaginext) is selling this part as a replacement. Lets take a look at a completed listings on ebay and then compare it to the cost of the replacement part on the manufactures website:
The ebay completed listing is on the top and the Imaginext website price is on the bottom. The ebay seller is probably making around $5 profit per sale, which may not seem like a lot until you see that this seller sold just under 50 in the month of August! Now this is just one product of hundreds that are on the replacement parts page. I encourage you to check it out and compare their prices to whats selling on ebay. You can check it out HERE.
